Losing a Beloved Dog: The Story Behind Tinker’s World of Dogs

Before this blog ever had a name, it had a dog that I rescued.

She was a long-haired chihuahua named Tinkerbell.

Tinker wasn’t a famous dog, a show dog, or a perfectly trained dog. She was a little old lady with opinions, routines, favorite sleeping spots, and a very serious belief that meal times should never be late or that I should never be out of her sight.

For 10½ years she was part of my everyday life. Not the exciting, once-in-a-while moments — the ordinary ones. The mornings. The evenings. The quiet sitting in the recliner while I worked. The tiny footsteps following me from room to room. The way she always seemed to know exactly where I was going before I did.

And like most dogs, she taught me things I didn’t realize I was learning.

She taught me that companionship doesn’t have to be loud to be meaningful.
She taught me that routines are actually comfort.
She taught me that being greeted like you are the most important person in the world can completely change a day.

In January, 2026, at the age of 16½, Tinker passed away.

Tinker was my little Chihuahua companion, and everyday life with a dog like her quietly shaped my routine for years.

Anyone who has loved a dog understands this part — it is a very quiet kind of grief. The house looks the same, but it doesn’t feel the same. You still expect to hear nails on the floor. You still look toward the place they used to sleep. You still reach over to move them when you get ready to get up.

Tinker’s World of Dogs was created because of her.

This blog isn’t just about breeds, tips, or dog facts. It’s about the life we share with them — the funny habits, the personality quirks, the loyalty, and the way each dog becomes completely irreplaceable.

Every dog owner knows their dog is unique.
This blog is where we celebrate that.

So whether you have a playful puppy, a dignified senior dog, or a stubborn little companion who runs your household, you’re welcome here.

This space exists in honor of a small dog who made a very big difference in one person’s everyday life.

Welcome to Tinker’s World of Dogs.

You may notice that some of the artwork and dog-inspired designs shared on this site are inspired by the personalities and quirks I experienced living with a Chihuahua for so many years. Creating them has become a small, happy way to keep those memories close.
